Nothing on earth gives me greater pleasure than cooking and feeding my family and friends. Steaming dim sums, spicy stir-fries and fragrant noodle bowls contribute to “a cat that licked the cream” smile, whereas fall off the bone goat curry and bitter fenugreek greens create a cocoon wherein I feel engulfed by my mums love.Ĭrisp salads, bowls of rice, seafood and meats all have the ability to uplift me into Zen mode where no one can do any wrong.Īnd of course gazillion desserts from profiteroles and basbousa to malwa puddings and rasmalai definitely leave me with a feeling that “heaven truly is a place on earth”.įor me food is a joy and a blessing. Samosas, tomato toasts and mince cutlets magically bring back the spring in my step as was redolent of the days of youth. The idea of a warm, flaky croissant or crisp sourdough bread with butter and strawberry preserve with a hot cup of coffee fills me with joy and hope that the day will be perfect.Ī bowl of creamy hummus, zesty springy ceviche or an indulgent cheeseboard can fix any “that was a horrendous work day” situation. Like many others, I too enjoy the song and as you read on, you will perhaps think I am nuts, but, similar emotions only arise in me when I think of my favorite eats. Most folks when they hear this song, say it transports them into a dream world where they can almost hear raindrops and feel the magic of the warm woolen mittens, leaving them feeling fuzzy, loved and on top of the world. Whilst the entire score of ‘The Sound of Music’ is fabulous, “these are a few of my favorite things” is definitely top of the mind whenever the movie is mentioned. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens…Julie Andrews immortalized these words and the song for generations to come. ![]()
